Distance Learning
American Art Therapy Association is in the process of developing an Arts Therapy Distance Learning (ATDL) Program which will be operated through its website. The Distance Learning Committee of the Board has developed this concept after study of similar programs for other national health care associations.
The Art Therapy Distance Learning Program will be used to supplement courses and workshops provided at the AATA annual conference but are designed not to be competitive in terms of content or pricing with conference training programs. See the final section of this notice for the proposed course subjects.
The ATDL program will:
Provide a method for members to generate additional revenue, learn how to format a distance learning course, and gain recognition for their work;
Allow easy access to continuing education requirements; and,
Continue to increase the level of professionalism in our field.
The Art Therapy Distance Learning Program will provide an opportunity for our members to broadly promote their existing on-line courses and encourage the development of new ones based on the interest of visitors to our website. When required, training in how to format a course for the program will be available.
In July, the process to formally apply to offer courses will be included in this section of the web site. Courses must meet the standards for CEU’s and be formatted to match the distance learning program. Those whose courses meet the CEU standards are eligible to apply to have their course posted as a distance learning course. In some cases, additional training will be required so that the course can be offered in the required on-line format.
We will broadly promote the distance learning program and handle the course application and payment process. Members whose courses meet the eligibility requires will receive a percentage of the revenue generated per course for their course development work. The remaining fee will be used to support the course software, processing of the course payment, confirmation of the students accomplishment, technical assistance and some development training, and hosting on the website. The Art Therapy Distance Learning Program management and marketing efforts undertaken by the American Art Therapy Association will be also be supported by the revenue generated by its distance learning program.
If you are interested in being a course developer, please review the course areas noted below and then use the Comment Registry under the Contact Us section of the American Art Therapy Association website using the subject: Art Therapy Distance learning to let us know of your interest.
Be sure to provide your full name, contact information, and email address and the name of the course subject you wish to cover as related to the course areas noted above.
Thank you for helping to build this important learning program for the field of Art Therapy.
The initial courses to be offered through the site may include:
